Bathrooms

A bathroom done in a few weeks.

Floor, tile, shower, tub, vanity and lighting, with a day-by-day schedule and photos every afternoon.

A guest bath can be done in a week or two if materials are on hand. A primary bath with new floor and shower usually takes two to four. We tell you from the start which days there will be no water.

What's included

  • Demolition and haul-away

  • Waterproofing before the tile

  • Floor and wall tile with grout

  • Vanity, faucets, shower and accessories

  • Ventilation, lighting and paint

Shower with green tile, brass fixtures, wood vanity and a window

What changes the cost

Four things move the number.

The number for your home goes in the written estimate, after the visit.

  • Size and layout

A guest bath and a primary bath aren't comparable. Moving the toilet or the shower costs more than changing the finish.

  • Tile

The tile size, the pattern and the number of cuts change the hours of labor more than the tile's price.

  • Shower and glass

A shower with custom glass needs fabrication time and exact measurements late in the job.

  • What's underneath

Floors with moisture or damaged wood under the tub show up only once we open them. You get the cost in writing before we continue.

How it goes

Step by step, with who arrives each day.

  1. 01

    Step 1: Choosing and ordering

Tile, vanity, faucets and glass are chosen and ordered before day one.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Demolition

One to two days. The rest of the floor is protected and the area covered.

  3. 03

    Step 3: Plumbing and waterproofing

Two to three days, plus the drying time the maker asks for.

  4. 04

    Step 4: Tile and grout

Four to six days, depending on the pattern.

  5. 05

    Step 5: Finishes and handover

Vanity, fixtures, glass, paint and the handover walkthrough.

Permits

Permits and rules.

Changing finishes doesn't need a permit. Moving pipes, adding a circuit or opening a wall does. If your home was built before 1978, the EPA lead steps apply too. We check and file it.

Questions

What people ask about this.

How long does a bathroom take?

A guest bath, one to two weeks on site; a primary bath, two to four. You get a day-by-day schedule before we start.

Will there be water in the house during the job?

Yes, except for a few days we tell you about beforehand. If it's your only bathroom, we work out together how to manage.

Do you install glass enclosures?

Yes. It's measured once the tile is up and made to size; that adds a few weeks and is on the schedule.
